Seasonal craft – the Shapes of two Seasons

The leaves are finally turning colour and November is a month that naturally gives itself to crafting.

As it is still part of autumn, we can find lots of acorns, leaves, chestnuts, dried berries or pine cones to craft with!

But we are getting into the festive Christmas season as well, so there are decorations everywhere and all the shapes we associate with it: snowmen, snowflakes, bells, stars, Christmas trees, gingerbread houses, ribbons, angels and other religious or non– religious objects.

In Deutschland wird im Herbst auch viel und gerne mit den Gaben dieser Jahreszeit gebastelt und da es vor allem auf Rokko Island viele Eicheln zu finden gibt, hier ein Link zu tollen Bastel Ideen mit HABA !

So in Pre–Kindergarten we were busy this week looking at the different shapes again and then making some ornaments and beautiful cards for our DSKI Christmas market.

First the children hung up their handmade sparkling stars on the school‘s Christmas tree in the hallway and they were very proud of them.

Wunderschöne Sterne, liebe Pre–Kindergarten Kinder!

Then we started our secret mission ( well, it should be a surprise for our parents what we sell at the Christmas market) to make beautiful items for our Weihnachtsmarkt and yes, a bit early, but the children really loved the sparkling circles we used at Sankt Martin and they became beautiful tree ornaments for our cards.

There will be an enchanting Christmas concert at the school with the children being white snowmen wearing a red ribbon bow . Ms. Priyanka showed the fascinated children how to make the ribbons and she turned out to be a giftend seamstress.

Another craft was a hand colored gingerbread house! This year there will be no candies on the gingerbread houses, but we know the parents will buy the cute art of their children and then decorate it with sweets at home. The Pre–Kindergarten children were very focused on using a multitude of colours and sparkling stickers to create their paintings which we then glued to the right size cardboard shape, expertly cut by Mr. Derek.
Auch im Offenen Deutschen Kindergarten haben viele Freunde von K1 und K2 zusammen schöne Lebkuchenhäuser ausgemalt.

Beautiful gingerbread houses ! Well done, everyone!
As we will have a collaborative baking activity with K1 and K2 next Thursday, the children started to practice with playdough. First using only hands, then different cookie cutters, they had lots of fun while also learning to make some shapes and they showed great concentration.

The beautiful weather in this autumn week invited to a stroll in search of more leaves.
We consequently checked out the nearby field where the EY children soon will be planting tulip bulbs. We did several rounds pointing out the pathways to walk on and the children seemed to understand where the bulbs will be planted.

Later we took the opportunity to practice a little Christmas singing and dancing in the open air.

What a lovely week full of learning more about shapes and making charming craft items !

We are all looking forward to next week with exciting events of the season!

Kind regards,

Mit herzlichen Grüßen,
