Shining Stars – Strahlende Sterne
Stars have been fascinating for humans since the beginning of mankind.
Who doesn’t love to gaze at a starlit night sky, wish upon a shooting star or admire the twinkling star lights of Christmas decorations even though these stars are artificial.
The week started on Monday with Sankt Martin‘s Day which is always celebrated on 11.11 and what a fantastic day we had at DSKI !
The whole school assembled in the morning in the MPR to watch a digital Kamishibai of the Sankt Martin Story, created by the children of Kindergarten 2 and narrated by them and the native German speakers of the DSKI elementary school.
The utterly charming presentation enthralled the audience and warmed our hearts.
After the performance everyone received a delicious Weckmann, sponsored by the PTA and then we continued to practice songs in anticipation of the evening.
Under the stars we walked with our colourful handmade lantern, singing in peaceful companionship and when arriving at school, we were awaited by yummy, warm Kinderpunsch.
Thank you so much to the whole Sankt Martin Team who made this a wonderful day for our DSKI school community including the youngest children. With the catching tunes of the Sankt Martin songs still on our mind, the Pre–Kindergarten children continued the journey of their first unit about colours and shapes and they have become quite knowledgeable by drawing, printing, crafting, singing, puzzling and matching.
In their beloved shape puzzles the star is one of the favorites and it fits especially well for this season. So the Pre–Kindergarten children made some nice Sankt Martin star collages, showing that their fine motor skills are developing as they were all able to pick up the paper stars and glue them on well.
As the school‘s Christmas tree will be set up this week, the children also made star ornaments. On one side they drew their own cute designs, on the other side they stuck a sparkling multicolored foil, which will shine on our tree in the hallway. We can’t wait to put up our handmade ornaments.
When talking about stars, an all time favorite song comes to mind and sure enough „Twinkle, twinkle, little star“ is a hit with the class and there is a charming version by Simple Songs online. The children then tried to make stars with magnets and they looked really beautiful.
Their friends from K1 helped to build a whole universe of amazing structures and it was lovely to see how well the children played together. This week the Pre–Kindergarten children also attended the assembly of the grades 5/6 where the students starred in their own presentation about media and its effect. The interesting presentation ended in a powerful dance where everyone clapped along. Great job grade 5/6 with their teachers Ms.Pam and Mr.Timm!
While revising the shapes throughout the week , the children watched a short interactive video clip (again from Simple Songs) where you have to form the indicated shapes with your fingers.
It is a good way to see the shapes first visually and then have the children imitate them. They can also find the correct shape in a multitude of illustrations.
On Friday we had another exciting day, when we celebrated our first birthday party in class.
Songyun turned 3 years old and we had a great time with delicious Baumkuchen (which he kindly shared with all of the EY classes) and some adorable pandas gifted to his Pre–KG friends as well as all his teachers. Heartfelt congratulations, Songyun and a big thank you to the birthday child and his parents. To celebrate even more, we made some sparkling star wands and the class did some magic dance moves. The children then took the wands along to search for stars in the school‘s hallway and found some high above on the Sankt Martins lanterns and next to his silhouette.
The week started and ended with the Pre–Kindergarten children and their friends shining their lights bright.
You really are the stars in our lives !
Kind regards,
Mit herzlichen Grüßen,
