This week besides celebrating Easter the school also held Culture Week. The hallway and the stage in the MPR were beautifully decorated by the wonderful members of the PTA.
We started the week continuing with our unit subjects and more of the Pre-KG children finished their painting / collage of favourite food.
The children really enjoy role play in the cooking area and creating their own meals, so we definitely will connect and cook something in the school kitchen soon.
On Tuesday, the focus was on Japanese Culture and a group of DSKI parents had kindly provided some traditional games for the children.
The Sumo, Japanese paper doll colouring and Anpan collage were very popular and the children had a lot of fun.
On Wednesday, a group of 4 young girls entertained us with a vibrant dance which was choreographed by themselves.
Then Ms. Jana Yaldic educated us with an interesting slide show about the sounds animals make in different languages. We learnt that there are cultural differences and it is really the interpretation of the listeners or otherwise how could cows of different countries communicate?
The Early Years classes also held their Easter celebrations with crafts, a song, a spoon race and an Easter Egg hunt on this day and what fun it was !
Thankfully the sun peeked out of the clouds when the children balanced their egg on a spoon and handed it over to a friend in order to win the race.
Later they eagerly went on an Easter egg ( ball) search which they exchanged for an Easter Bunny bag with surprises, lovingly crafted by the PTA. Thank you so much, dear PTA, there were smiles all around !
The Pre-Kindergarten children were also invited to Sofia's (K1) piñata birthday party and they all tried their luck in hitting the beautiful piñata butterfly. Sofia's family shared some delicious Baumkuchen with our class, vielen Dank !
On Thursday we celebrated our super heroes and our class featured a policeman, a detective, a soccer player as well as friends and family members as role models.
And yes, our grandmas are people we look up to as well! Ja, Omas können sicher auch unsere Super Heldinnen sein !
As it has been rather chilly these past weeks and we have been wondering about the growth of the tulips that we had planted, we went for a walk to check on them. On the way we admired Ms.Harris and the school children's Scottish dancing in the school yard.
At the field we were surprised at the different rate of tulip growth which reflects the one of humans. Some tulips grow faster, some slower, but surely one day they are all in full bloom.
After seeing the flowers, we visited a park nearby and one of our little girls happily discovered that there was her favourite animal, a bunny, to ride on.
Growth can also be witnessed at the lawn in front of our school where our school‘s Green Team had put a poster to inform people about the necessity of giving the lawn time to grow and in the meantime not to step on it.
On Friday then, after a very stormy and rainy night, the school community was greeted by bright sunshine!
There were many happy smiles to be seen as the children, their families and their teachers paraded around the river in beautiful and colourful costumes.
Back at school, we spread the mats and had a fantastic picnic with plenty of delicious dishes provided by the families. Thank you all so much for your generosity and for sharing! It was a precious time together and lots of lively conversations and laughter could be heard.
Vielen herzlichen Dank, thank you very much to the Culture Week team for all their work and preparations, we truly enjoyed ourselves!
And this week the Pre–Kindergarten class had another celebration as Noah turned 3 years old and shared the special occasion with his friends.
Alles Gute zu Deinem 3 Geburtstag, lieber Noah, wir haben uns sehr gefreut mit dir zu feiern.
Thank you very much to Noah’s mother and grandmother for the delicious cake and all the goodies and nice presents.
What an eventful and enchanting week we had together !
Now all we need are the cherry blossoms !
Wishing you a joyful and peaceful Easter Weekend ! Frohe Ostern !
With kind regards,
Mit herzlichen Grüßen,
