Care and share on St. Valentine and every day

What a wonderful week of caring, learning and sharing we had at Pre–Kindergarten!

It was heartwarming to see how the children helped each other, but we also shared a lot knowledge this week !

We started by inviting Ms.Keiko LeHenne into our classroom who is not only a long standing member of the DSKI community whose both children attended Pre–Kindergarten many years ago and a generous school sponsor who donates time and goods to DSKI, but also an artist who creates beautiful items at her Studio .

This time she held a workshop in our class and provided all the necessary items, so the Pre–Kindergarten children could create their own unique plates.

Ms.LeHenne patiently explained the process of drawing and using special stickers and the children were full of attention. They really loved creating their own artwork and how beautiful their plates looked !

Two days later the baked plates were delivered again and the Pre–Kindergarten children took them joyfully home on Sankt Valentine‘s Day to share food on them with their family.

Thank you so much Keiko–san for your kind guidance and this fantastic opportunity to create lasting memories.

Next on the agenda was making special healthy treats for Valentine‘s Day, but for that we first needed to go shopping.

After looking at our special fruit book again, the children decided to buy bananas, strawberries, apples, grapes and tomatoes.

It was quite an adventure to navigate through the nearby Yamada store with our small children, but they showed good knowledge of the fruits required and tried to put them into the cart gently.

The cashier was a highlight, too as the children fascinated watched the paper money being sucked up and the coins spit out.

So we got the fruits, but what would a Valentine‘s day be without a handmade card ? The children used one of their favorite shapes, a heart, on favorite coloured paper to convey their lovely wishes for their parents. Great choices and again, great fine motor skills.

On Friday, 14th February, the big day then had arrived when the children made healthy fruit sticks to share on Valentine with each other, friends, teachers and the office staff.

Ms. Anita had precut some of the harder fruits into bite size pieces, but the children did a great job cutting bananas by themselves.

After revising all the names of the fruit and pointing out their benefits to our health, the children started to put the fruits on little wooden skewers and showed admirable concentration and skill in doing so.

The result were colourful, delicious fruit sticks and everyone loved them!

At the end of the day we watched and sang again a lovely song which was so fitting for Valentine‘s Day, but really is for every day.

I Love You

The children also each received a little bear with a red heart to show the teachers’ love and appreciation and it was very popular.

We are very happy to see how much the children have grown, not only physically, but emotionally and how well they care for each other, their friends from EY, their teachers and of course, their families.

Please enjoy the fabulous plate the children have made, the cute cards and kindly share some food.

Have a cozy, loving family time.

With kind regards, Mit herzlichen Grüßen,
