FAVOURITES !
This week we were excited to have had another new friend join our Pre-KG class and the extended group of friends played happily and shared some of their favourites.
Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten and DSKI community, little boy and family!
The week started with Valentine’s Day where we show our favourite people how much we love them.
Well, I think our Pre-Kindergarten children are very loving every day, but we took this special occasion to make cute and useful bookmarks as presents for the parents.
The children joyfully coloured their bookmarks and glued on a lot of hearts, so mum and dad (or grandparents, siblings and other favourite people) could use these presents for special reading occasions.
I love books and as my favourite children’s book author is Eric Carle I presented the Pre-Kindergarten children (who are some of my favourite people ) with a placemat featuring the animals of the Brown Bear book which the children love so much.
They can use the placemat for Playdough or narrating or such and I hope it will remind the children of their learning and their lovely time at school.
We continued to talk about favourite animals and favourite food and it was interesting to see that some children stood by their choices and others had new favourites every day.
While the Pre-Kindergarten children are still discovering more new animal and food choices every day, they also continue to work on their classroom board.
Two big favourites for animals that fly in the sky were the butterfly and the parrot, so the children created colourful flying animals with the triangle pasting technique they had learned about in their first unit.
For land and sea animals, they chose to put ducks and frogs, because this animal dwells in both places.
Stay tuned for more art and animals coming up !
As the children also seemed to grasp the idea of “favourite” which is part of the concept “perspective”. they voiced some favourite play choices which included a train set, feeding the toy horses and making a lot of different bentos.
PS. Expanding knowledge: Favourite means Lieblings…in German, ichiban suki na…in Japanese and favorita / o in Spanish !
Please talk about YOUR favourite animal and food with your child and we will ask the children about your conversations next week!
Yours,
Anita Ursula Mönch
DSKI Pre-Kindergarten homeroom teacher
